Academic Hospital Research Needs Assessment
Goal
The overarching goal of this needs assessment was to evaluate research experiences of individuals involved in any capacity of research at an academic hospital in South Carolina.

Methods
There were two specific methods used to collect data for this assessment: individual interviews and a self-evaluation survey.
Referral sampling was used for recruitment of interview participants. Interviews were focused on individuals research goals, areas for development and possible solutions to support research efficiency. The self-evaluation survey was distributed to over 200 researchers on the Research Division email list.
Findings
Based on a thematic analysis of the data from the needs assessment, six (6) areas of focus were formed and seven (7) recommendations derived. From there, recommendations were categorized based its feasibility to implement/maintain and its potential impact on institutional research development.​

Impact
A 17-page report outlining the needs assessment methods, data, and comprehensive list of recommendations were provided to executive and middle leaders, and shared with participants.

From this project, a taskforce was established to support development of a standardized training for researchers.
